How to Love – What is Love Really About?
What is love, Really? We start searching for it, usually around the time we reach Junior High. As we begin with our silly crushes, and eventually we start dating. We hope to find that warm feeling all wrapped up for us. As we try to find of someone to love us and give us those feelings.
As we grow up, and experience a few heartbreaks, we begin to realize that love is something we don’t need to go out looking for in someone else. We need to unwrap it within our self first. Because we’ve always had it, & we’ve never lost it.
When we are small children, we love ourselves, it’s born into our nature. As we get older we seem to lose sight of it and begin looking for it externally. Love exists in all of us & we just need to rediscover it within ourselves to fully experience the sheer rapture of it.
Love is something we experience from within; it’s universal. And when we find where it lives within all of us; we then begin to learn what love really is, and how to love. We then can express and share it with everyone.
In every kind of different relationship:
- Family & friends
- Our children
- Special relationships with our significant others
Even showing compassion to a complete stranger is an act of love.
How to Love – According to Ashton:
It’s a “coming of age” lesson in life; and Ashton Kutcher nailed it right on the head when he received an award in his home state of Iowa, for displaying excellent character & being an outstanding role model to millions. In his speech he states that “we all have the ability to love equally”.
It’s a high honor to receive such an award & Ashton deserves every bit it. Sure, he has had his share of blunders through the years, as we all have.
In his acceptance speech, he mentioned the scandal accusations that were all over the magazines; when they dubbed him as an adulterer during his 2011 split with Demi Moore. Kutcher had also mentioned being arrested for breaking into his school & dodging a couple of other arrests as well.

But oh my, what a model human being he has become! Aside from his charmed life, and the many accolades he’s had. Aside from the iconic roles he’s done as an actor, & his early modeling career; there’s no doubt that he sees becoming a loving father & husband to be of his greatest victory.
He considers his “role” he plays in his family’s life; and his work with the human rights organization he started in order to put an end to child sex-trafficking (THORN) to come first before his acting job; as he stated in this video.
With the caliber of man he has become, he feels much of the credit is owed to his brother Michael, for shaping his character and equipping him the lead the life he has; and for teaching him how to love.
Here’s what ABC News 9 reports Ashton said about Michael during his acceptance speech:
The 39-year-old actor was in Iowa on Saturday to receive the Robert D. Ray Pilliar of Character Award for demonstrating “good character as a role model.”
And then they quote Ashton:
“My brother was born with cerebral palsy and it taught me that loving people isn’t a choice and that people aren’t actually all created equal,” the actor said, fighting back tears. “The Constitution lies to us. We’re not all created equal. We’re all created incredibly unequal to one another, in our capabilities and what we can do and how we think and what we see. But we all have the equal capacity to love one another, and my brother taught me that.”

The Ability to Love
Ashton states that “love is not a choice”. Which is true; in the sense that we are all born with the capability & the capacity. But we sometimes lose sight of the ability. And we do have to choose to love at times. Sometimes it is difficult and we do have to remind ourselves how to love one another.
The best way is by choosing to love yourself first, unconditionally. Life can deal us our fair share of blows, and sometimes we find it difficult to forgive others (& ourselves). Just remember, we are not perfect and neither is life. When you make a mistake and you’re feeling down on yourself about it, show yourself some compassion and love yourself anyway.
When you do right by yourself and accept yourself as you are, imperfections and all; your self esteem will go up. You will in turn be more loving and accepting of others as well.
The capacity to love is almost limitless, and something we all have an endless supply of. They say that love is patient and kind, and it’s spirit is universal. It’s a powerful thing that lives within all of us; where anybody can choose to be kind, patient, and caring of one another.
Conclusion:
Love isn’t just a feeling, it’s a choice we make. A choice to find it in ourselves, feel it, and share it with the rest of the world. We must first love ourselves unconditionally; when we choose to do that, we can much more easily share it with everyone else. And the more we share it, the more our hearts begin to change. Love is one of the most powerful emotions we possess. When we experience it, and give it out to people free and unconditionally. It’s a thing of true strength.
Ashton Kutcher may have played a few dense characters in his time; but is by no means, a dense man. He is very smart, and has definitely figured much out about what really matters in life. It takes a great deal of maturity and wisdom (about himself & about life) to view the world the way he does.
To know that “we can all love equally”, & that we have a never ending supply of it at our disposal, and can to tap into at any time. It never runs out of stock, just as soon as we find it.
